week 12
This week in NMP we looked at Data Visualisation and the many different ways that data can be visualised. Some of these include visualisations about the US financial Crisis
This visualisation shows a interesting but, basic explanation of how the financial crisis was started and the general direction it took towards the current crisis.
another one was about the energy usage of humans versus cars.
it is pretty evident that walking is significantly more energy efficient than driving a car. Although it is interesting reading about the equivilent calories gained from either gasoline or a variety of foods.
Another one talks about the history of beer.
This is an interesting data visualisation because it shows people how beer has evolved and been integrated into nearly all societies through science, literature, religion and includes many facts about beer.
This are just a few, many more can be seen on the website. Furthermore there were several other sites that discussed how statistics can be used more effecivly. One such person is Hans Rosling, who made a presentation on HIV statistics in Africa Among with other things.
Whilst watching my regular TV programs this week i stumbled upon a controversial video taken from the Gruen transfer, a program on the ABC that discusses ads. The Video was aimed at reducing the discrimination against fat people and instead started a debate as to whether or not it was too over the top. This ad was banned on TV and instead had to be viewed on the site.
